TURKEY PLEDGES USD 500 MILLION CREDIT

Luanda – President of Turkey Recept Tayip Erdogan announced Monday in Luanda a credit of USD 500 million to increase cooperation with Angola in the most diverse areas.

Recept Tayip Erdogan made the pledge at a joint press conference with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço.

After signing several new cooperation agreements between the two states, Turkey’s president expressed interest in supporting Angola’s economic development.

The Turkish Head of State, who is visiting Angola, stressed that the start of direct flights between the two countries aims to increase cooperation in the fields of education, agriculture, tourism and industry, including the military, with reciprocal advantages.

He said that there is much to do in Angola in the energy sector, in exploring agricultural potential and natural gas, as well as in the military industry, to boost efforts to pacify the region and the world.

Recept Tayip Erdogan said he appreciates Angola’s ongoing reforms and efforts to pacify southern and central Africa.

He invited President João Lourenço to participate in the 3rd Turkey-Africa Summit, scheduled for December in that Eurasian country.

The Turkish statesman defended a world of fairer international relations, without fear, so that peoples cooperate for world peace and development.

The Governments of Angola and Turkey signed Monday, in Luanda, cooperation agreements in customs matters, in the fields of agriculture, education and industry, as part of bilateral cooperation.

A joint declaration for the establishment of the Economic and Trade Commission between the two countries and memorandums of understanding in the sectors of tourism, trade, industry and technology were also signed.

Another legal instrument is related to a cooperation protocol between Rádio Nacional de Angola and Radio and Television of Turkey.

The visit to Angola by the Head of State of Turkey is in return for the visit of President João Lourenço to that country on 27-29 July this year, during which agreements were signed in the fields of transport, mineral resources, trade, economy and the elimination of visas in service, diplomatic and special passports.

Angola and Turkey cooperate since 1980 in the fields of agriculture, education, culture, defence, justice, trade and sport.

Turkey has investments in the provinces of Luanda and Uíge, in the areas of industry, commerce, education and civil construction, and currently trade between the two countries totals USD134 million, with prospects of reaching USD1 billion in the next years.

In 2020, Turkey invested around USD22.55 million in Angola in various sectors, and the African country is interested in the experience and potential of the Turks in the textile, agri-food and automobile industries, as well as in the production of household appliances and assembly of tractors and motorcycles.
