US COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING ANGOLA COMBAT WILDLIFE TRADE, SAYS AMBASSADOR

The United States Ambassador to Angola, Helena La Lime, has reiterated Washington’s support for efforts to combat the trafficking in animals and training of forest rangers in Angola.

She said this when she met Angolan Environment Minister Fatima Jardim here Wednesday to discuss issues related to the fight for the preservation of animals and other environmental programmes.

The ambassador, who expressed readiness to continue co-operating to support such efforts, said it was important to have the participation of Angola in the International Conference on Oceans, set to be held in Washington, next month.

She also pledged to support the Angola’s efforts in de-mining, which she noted affected Angola’s parks and nature reserves. She said such commitment was important to rid Angola of this menace.

Jardim stressed her the Ministry’s commitment to creating a new message on environmental sustainability. She also praised the US for its co-operation in the training of supervisors and its commitment to support the fight against poaching.
