Luanda – The Zambian Head of State, Hakainde Hichilema, appealed Wednesday to the Angolan Parliament to create laws that may strengthen more and more the democracy system, peace and security.
The Zambian leader made the call while speaking at a formal plenary meeting in the National Assembly (Angolan parliament) in his honour in the ambit of his State visit to Angola to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
For the Zambian President, peace and stability are crucial aspects and parliaments should be in the front line of this struggle.
Mr Hichilena noted that the legacy of the two countries touches on several areas of common interest, namely “cultural, names and even ties of consanguinity and geography”, as the two states share several kilometres of border, he reminded.
The Zambian President underlined that these historical aspects link the futures of both countries and that his country is an interested party in walking together in these developmental journeys.
The Zambian statesman congratulated Carolina Cerqueira on her election as Speaker of the Angolan Parliament and on her contribution to social issues and inclusive democratic governance in Angola.
President Hichilema stressed that Angola and Zambia share historic ties that extend beyond the government-to-government relationship, underlining the fact that there are over 30,000 Angolans living in Zambia.
