According to Missaoui, the goal of this meeting is to develop a charter on the media coverage of migration issues, stressing that «news agencies must be neutral, impartial and precise.»

He underlined that the symposium is held at a time when Tunisia has been the target of disinformation campaigns and the spread of false information due to the media coverage of the migration issues.

He underlined that the participation of officials from the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affai
rs and a significant number of journalists, shows their will to address the issue of migration according to a scientific approach.

During this meeting, participants discussed the requirements of media coverage focusing on migration issues in the Mediterranean basin and in particular irregular migration.

They underlined the importance of cooperation and networking between Mediterranean news agencies (AMAN) so as to collect data and suggest a reflexive approach on irregular migration, adding that the alliance must support the efforts of journalists working on this issue.
