Pre-trial detention of FTF president Wadie Jary extended by four months


Tunis: The examining magistrate at the Tunis Court of First Instance has extended the pre-trial detention of Wadie Jary, president of the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), for another four months, court spokesman Mohamed Zitouna told TAP.

Jary was arrested in October last year following a complaint from the Ministry of Youth and Sport. A second detention order was issued against him last November for “mismanagement of public funds”.

Volleyball African Club Championship – MS Bousalem lose final to Al Ahly of Egypt 0-3


Tunis: Defending champions MS Bousalem lost their crown to Al Ahly of Egypt after losing the final of the African Volleyball Club Championship 3-0 (21-25, 17-25, 17-25 and 18-25) on Tuesday night in Cairo.

MS Bousalem had qualified for the final after beating Prisons of Kenya 3-0 (25-15, 25-13 and 25-22) in the semi-finals in Egypt on Monday.

Al Ahly had defeated Al-Nasr of Libya 3-0 (25-19, 25-18,26-24).

MS Bousalem won the title in Tunisia last year after beating Zamalek 3-2 in the final.

Volleyball African Club Championship – MS Bousalem to take on Al Ahly of Egypt in final


Tunis: Defending champions MS Bousalem will take on Al Ahly of Egypt in the final of the African Volleyball Club Championship on Tuesday evening in Cairo.

They qualified for the final of the African Volleyball Club Championship, after defeating Prisons of Kenya 3-0 (25-15, 25-13 and 25-22) at a semi-final game played on Monday in Egypt.

Al Ahly qualified for their part, after beating Al-Nasr of Libya 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 26-24).

Tunisia participates in Fourth Meeting of CEN-SAD Ministers of Youth and Sports in Libya


Tunis: Youth and Sports Minister Kamel Déguiche is participating in the Fourth Meeting of the Ministers of Youth and Sports of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in Tripoli, Libya, which started on Tuesday.

Upon arrival Monday to Tripoli Mitiga International Airport, the minister said exchange has become a reality for Tunisian and Libyan youth. Efforts are now centered on scaling up relations with Libya in all fields.

This fourth meeting is mainly attended by Ado Al-Hajji Abu, the Executive Secretary of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), and representatives of youth and sports departments from various African countries, including Tunisia.

A host of topics are on the agenda, especially boosting training and youth exchange initiatives, national efforts to give impetus to the sector of youth and sports, youth participation in policy-making, revitalising joint youth programmes and sports tournaments and wider horizons for cooperation with regional and international organisations.

A
series of expert meetings were held over the last two days in the runup to this fourth meeting. Proposals, including the establishment of a Community of Sahel-Saharan States union of youth centres, were considered.

Working session with Chinese experts on finishing works on El Menzah Olympic stadium


Tunis: A working session chaired by Equipment and Housing Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zanzri was held on Monday at the ministry’s headquarters with a delegation of Chinese experts, to examine the possibilities of finishing the renovation works on the El Menzah Olympic stadium.

The Chinese delegation is visiting Tunisia as part of the preparation of a feasibility study on the Menzah Olympic Stadium, with a view to completing the refurbishment works in compliance with international technical standards.

The meeting focused on the need to speed up the preparation of the final report on this study so that the refurbishment works can be completed in the best possible conditions, and to submit a request for the restoration of the El Menzah Palais des Sports and Olympic swimming pool by the Chinese side, given that these two areas are part of the National Sports City.

The meeting was attended by representatives of China’s Embassy in Tunis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad.

The meetin
g highlighted the depth of bilateral cooperation relations between Tunisia and China in many fields, and ways to further cement them into a strategic partnership.
