16 Injured as Three-Wheeled Motorcycle Crashes into Funeral Procession in Cuanza Norte

Cuanza Norte: At least 16 people were injured, with eight in critical condition, when a three-wheeled motorcycle collided with a crowd during a funeral procession in the village of Golungo Alto.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the accident occurred when a motorbike, allegedly driven by a drunk driver carrying three passengers, struck participants in the procession. Cristo Pedro Sebastio, the municipal director of health in Golungo-Alto, stated that the eight seriously injured individuals, including the motorcyclist, have been admitted to Cuanza-Norte General Hospital. They are being treated for multiple fractures and head trauma, which necessitate specialized care.

The remaining injured individuals, who are in stable condition, are being treated at the local hospital. One of the victims, Leonel Leito, recounted that they were en route to a funeral when they were hit by a high-speed motorcycle.

Ros¡rio Armando, the municipal commander of the National Police, announced that, in response to the incident, the department has initiated an awareness campaign focused on preventing drunk driving among motorcyclists and enforcing traffic regulations.

This incident marks the first of its kind in Cuanza Norte this year. However, a similar accident occurred in 2024 when seven individuals, including a pregnant woman, were seriously injured in Golungo Alto. That accident also involved a vehicle losing control and striking people walking alongside a funeral procession.
