Diego Gomez wonder goal sinks Brazil

A stunning first-half strike from Diego Gomez gave Paraguay a 1-0 home victory over Brazil in their World Cup qualifier here on Tuesday.

Inter Miami midfielder Gomez gave his side the lead from the edge of the 18-yard box by using the outside of his right foot to curl a 20-yard shot into the net off the far post.

Brazil controlled almost three quarters of the total possession and completed more than twice as many passes as the hosts.

But the visitors lacked incisiveness in the final third, despite the presence of Real Madrid attacking trio Vinicius Junior, Endrick and Rodrygo.

The result at Estadio Defensores del Chaco leaves Paraguay seventh in the 10-team South American group with nine points from eight qualifiers, a point behind fifth-placed Brazil.

Earlier on Tuesday, Colombia won 2-1 at home to Argentina, Ecuador edged to a 1-0 home victory over Peru, Bolivia won 2-1 away to Chile and Venezuela were held to a goalless home draw by Uruguay. Enditem
