Afreximbank Launches Local Content Forum to Boost Angolan Oil and Gas Sector

Luanda: Pan-African financial institution the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is introducing strategic financing solutions at the Angola Oil and Gas (AOG) Conference and Exhibition through a dedicated Local Content Forum. This initiative aims to mobilize capital for Angolan companies by offering local entrepreneurs a platform to engage directly with successful African business leaders who have benefited from Afreximbank-backed financing. According to African Press Organization, the forum is part of the main conference agenda and aligns with Afreximbank's strategy to enhance indigenous participation in Angola's oil and gas value chain. By expanding access to finance and supporting business growth, the forum will illustrate through practical case studies from Nigeria how tailored financing solutions can empower Angolan businesses to acquire assets, expand operations, and vie for larger projects. Afreximbank has been instrumental in supporting the expansion of Nigeria's indigenous energy sector. In De cember 2025, the bank formed a $750 million financing partnership with Heirs Energies to optimize the company's capital structure and unlock liquidity for new exploration and production endeavors. Additionally, the bank increased its reserve-based lending facility for Oando to $375 million, aiding their goal to boost production to 100,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas per day. The forum will provide Angolan entrepreneurs practical insights into leveraging tailored financing solutions for company growth by showcasing these and other success stories. Afreximbank has already established a robust financing presence in Angola, supporting national oil company Sonangol's growth through strategic financing solutions. In January 2026, the bank closed a $1.75 billion syndicated receivables purchase facility to support Sonangol's operational and capital expenditure needs, structured alongside multiple mandated lead arrangers to monetize future export contracts and mitigate oil price vol atility. Beyond the upstream sector, Afreximbank supports industrial infrastructure financing across Angola. In 2024, the bank acted as Mandated Lead Arranger for the AMUFERT-led fertilizer and ammonia plant development, committing $1.4 billion in debt funding. The $2 billion project aims to produce 4,000 metric tons per day, with operations expected to start in 2027. Additionally, a $335 million project financing facility was mobilized for the development of the Cabinda Refinery, which is now operational with a capacity of 30,000 bpd, with plans to expand to 60,000 bpd. The AOG 2026 Local Content Forum builds on Afreximbank's commitment to Angola, aiming to place local companies at the forefront of the next wave of oil and gas investments. By linking Angolan entrepreneurs with financiers and successful African operators, the forum seeks to unlock new capital sources and support the growth of indigenous operators and service providers. Afreximbank is also an Elite Sponsor of the upcoming conference.
