Luanda:Defending champions Al Ahly delivered a commanding performance to defeat Angolan team Interclube 38-24 in Group A of the African Handball Champions Cup.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the match took place at the Kilamba Multipurpose Pavilion, where Interclube, supported by an enthusiastic home crowd, began strongly with Paulo Gonga scoring two early goals. Despite their efforts, Interclube trailed just 8-7 after the first ten minutes. However, missed opportunities allowed Al Ahly to take control, leading 17-11 by halftime.
In the second half, Al Ahly maintained their momentum, effectively countering Interclube's defense to secure a resounding 14-goal victory. Mohamed Emad was recognized as the Most Valuable Player for his pivotal role in Al Ahly's offensive success.
In other matches of the men's opening round, Petro de Luanda achieved a 38-25 victory over Rwanda's APR in Group A. In Group B, JSK from the Democratic Republic of Congo overcame Mechal of Ethiopia with a 33-20 win. The day's competition in Luanda was set to conclude with a match between Egyptian team Zamalek and 1.º de Agosto.
