Alupe University Encouraged to Enhance Community Through Research and Technology


Alupe – Alupe University has been urged to embark on adventurous research projects aimed at advancing science and technology for the betterment of local communities. The call was made by Higher Education and Research PS Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, represented by the Chairperson of the Commission of University Education, Prof. Chacha Nyaigoti.



According to Kenya News Agency, the National Research Fund and other research agencies are poised to support the university’s research initiatives. She commended Alupe University for establishing local and international linkages and partnerships, which are expected to bolster the institution’s capacity in the future. Dr. Inyangala stressed the importance of the university’s collaboration with industries, the primary consumers of its products, to assess their value and efficiency.



The PS also conveyed the government’s commitment to supporting the university in fulfilling its mandate. She emphasized the need for Alupe University to align its academic programs and research priorities with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and President Dr. William Ruto’s Bottom-Up model. She announced the government’s investment in building 2,000 houses at a cost of Sh2 billion and constructing a tuition block for Sh500 million, with Sh80 million already allocated for these projects.



Further infrastructure developments at the university, including tarmac roads and street lighting, are underway. Dr. Inyangala envisions Alupe University as a leading institution in terms of infrastructure and human resources.



Prof. Chacha Nyaigoti expressed concern over the current educational statistics in Kenya, including the number of Master’s Degree holders, undergraduates, and PhD graduates. He urged an expansion of university education and advised Vice Chancellors nationwide to collaborate closely with the Department of University Education.



Alupe University Chancellor Prof. Peter Barasa expressed gratitude towards local leaders for their support and thanked the government for committing to significant infrastructure projects, including the construction of laboratories with a budget of Sh200 million.



Busia Deputy Governor Arthur Odera announced the county government’s plans to invest more in Alupe Sub County hospital, aiming to enhance its capacity and medical care. He emphasized the importance of improving facilities such as X-ray units, mother and child health units, sanitation, and handwashing facilities. Odera also called for the establishment of a police post at Alupe University to ensure the safety of staff and students.



The ceremony marked the university’s second graduation, where over 200 students received undergraduate certificates in various fields.
