Luanda:Angola The Ministry of Planning and the Institute for Capacity Development (ICD) of the International Monetary Fund have agreed to extend the completion of Angola's national macroeconomic projection model to June 2027. This decision was reached during a meeting between the State Secretary for Planning, Luis Epalanga, and the Director of the ICD, Catriona Purfield, on the sidelines of the 82nd Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the meeting focused on reviewing the current status and the timeline for the next steps in developing the national macroeconomic projection model. This model is based on the Macroframework Foundations Tool (MFT), part of the technical assistance provided by the ICD to the Angolan government. Initially, the model was slated for completion in the first quarter of 2027.
The initiative aims to enhance national technical capabilities in conducting macroeconomic analyses and projections. It will enable the adaptation of calculation models to reflect the country's economic realities and support scenario construction to evaluate the effects of supply and demand shocks.
This meeting is a continuation of efforts begun during an IMF team mission to Luanda from September 21 to 25, which included officials from the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Institute of Statistics. The Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank, currently in their 82nd edition, address key global economic challenges and explore prospects for more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive growth. This year’s event, themed "Thailand's New Horizons Empowering People, Building Resilience," marks the second time Thailand has hosted these meetings, the first being in 1991.
Since joining the World Bank and IMF in 1989, Angola has strengthened its relationship with these institutions through programs aimed at improving management, consolidating national accounts, refining investment mechanisms, and fostering economic and social growth.
