Luanda:Angola and Namibia have identified seven legal instruments for cooperation, which are expected to be signed soon after recent technical discussions in Luanda. This announcement was made by Jorge Cardoso, Director for Africa, the Middle East and Regional Organisations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), following the Senior Officials Session of the Angola-Namibia Binational Commission.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the identified instruments will be submitted for validation by the foreign ministers of both countries before being considered by their respective Heads of State. This technical work has been crucial in consolidating documentation and analyzing cross-cutting issues to guide the implementation of the commitments between the two nations.
The meeting facilitated the preparation of proceedings' minutes and a draft joint communiqué, expected to address issues of common interest at bilateral, regional, and international levels. Angola and Namibia's participation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union, and the United Nations were highlighted, where consultations on mutual interests are held.
The Senior Officials Session, which began on Thursday, included representatives from both countries to review bilateral commitments, address outstanding issues, and propose new cooperation avenues in various sectors, including diplomacy, economy, social affairs, defense, and security.
Jorge Cardoso noted that the outcomes of this phase would be considered by the ministers and later presented at the Heads of State level Binational Commission session. This is aimed at deepening relations between Angola and Namibia, strengthening political dialogue, and promoting joint initiatives.
The Angola-Namibia Binational Commission, established by an agreement between their governments and approved by Presidential Decree No. 38/20 of 27 February, seeks to enhance cooperation across government sectors, encourage joint initiatives, and develop partnerships between public and private entities.
