Luanda: The minister was speaking to journalists after a meeting of the commission in charge of preparing the Holy Father's visit, chaired by the President of the Republic, Joo Lourenço. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Minister of State stated that preparations are being finalized for the open-air mass and for the Pope's presence at points of great religious symbolism, such as the Sanctuary of Muxima, in the province of Icolo e Bengo. Here, private moments and celebrations with pilgrims are planned, along with other scheduled activities. The Minister emphasized that as the arrival date approaches, scheduled for the 18th, the committee is intensifying the pace of task execution to ensure the success of the visit. On that occasion, she also appealed for the collaboration of citizens, urging respect and engagement during the presence of the leader of the Catholic Church in the country, highlighting his role as a figure who promotes positive values for humanity. The governor also recalled that the Supreme Pontiff is traveling to Angola in a dual capacity, as Head of State and spiritual leader, with an apostolic mission of great significance for the faithful. The President of the Republic, Joo Lourenço, created, by Presidential Decree dated January 14, 2026, a Commission in charge of preparing and organizing the official visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Angola. This decision follows the announcement made by the Apostolic Nunciature in Angola regarding the Supreme Pontiff's visit to the country. The Commission is coordinated by the Minister of State for Social Affairs and includes various ministers essential for the event's success, such as those from the Interior, Foreign Affairs, Finance, and other key sectors. The Commission's responsibilities include creating the necessary material and protocol conditions for the success of the visit, interacting with the Apostolic Nunciature in Angola to carry out the tasks inherent to the event, and complying with other superior directives. The Commission, w hich held its third meeting, is working closely with the Apostolic Nunciature and the Catholic Episcopal Conference of Angola and So Tomé (CEAST) in the process of preparing and organizing the visit.
