Luanda: The National Canoeing Team of Angola emerged victorious at the African Youth Games held in Luanda Bay, securing the championship title by clinching a total of eight medals. The impressive tally includes two gold, five silver, and one bronze medal, highlighting Angola's dominance in the canoeing events.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan team showcased exceptional performance in the 500m C2 events, with Mafuta Camazaulo leading the charge by clocking a time of 3:12.39. In the 200m C1 race, Neusa Jos© Mafuta secured a gold medal with a remarkable time of 59.25, further solidifying Angola's top position in the competition.
Among the seven participating nations, Algeria secured the second spot with a total of seven medals, including two gold, two silver, and three bronze. Tunisia followed closely in third place, earning six medals with two gold, one silver, and three bronze, while So Tom© and Prncipe finished in fourth place with two gold medals. Unfortunately, national teams from Kenya, Ghana, and Mozambique were unable to reach the podium during the two-day event that began on Friday.
The African Youth Games will continue until the 20th, featuring various other sports disciplines. Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of the Games is set to take place this afternoon at the 11 de Novembro stadium.
