Kigali: Angola will face Gabon on Saturday in Kigali, Rwanda, in a crucial matchup during the group stage of the African Senior Men's Handball Championship (AFCON 2026). The outcome of this encounter will determine which team advances to the quarter-finals.
According to Angola Press News Agency, this will mark the second meeting between the two teams in the AFCON tournament, with Angola previously defeating Gabon 31-26 during the 2020 edition of the championship in Tunisia. Both teams are competing in Group B, where Angola currently holds the 3rd position and Gabon the 2nd, each with two points.
The group also includes the reigning champion, Egypt, who leads with four points and is set to compete against Uganda, a team yet to earn any points in the tournament. The top two teams from each of the four groups will secure a place in the quarterfinals, making the Angola-Gabon match pivotal for both teams.
