Angola Discusses Economic Growth at World Bank and IMF Meetings in Thailand

Bangkok:The Angolan delegation is set to focus on the country's recent economic growth at the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Bangkok, Thailand. The meetings, beginning on Monday, will feature discussions on Angola's economic progress and future outlook.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the World Bank has revised Angola's 2026 economic growth forecast from 2.4% to 4.5%, reflecting improvements in the country's economy despite global uncertainties. In 2024, Angola's GDP grew by 4.4%, marking the highest growth rate since 2014, although it slowed to 3.1% in 2025.

The Angolan Ministry of Planning highlights that the meetings provide an opportunity for Angola to engage in deeper institutional dialogue with the WB, IMF, and other development partners. The delegation aims to present the priorities of developing countries in terms of financing and international cooperation and to strengthen ties with other African nations.

The Angolan delegation, led by Luís Epalanga, Secretary of State for Planning, includes key officials such as Manuel Tiago Dias, Governor of the Angola Central Bank, and Ottoniel dos Santos, Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury. They will participate in various sessions and debates on topics like sustainable economic growth, infrastructure development, and human capital.

The official agenda features events such as the Ministerial Meeting of the G24 Group and the African Caucus with WB and IMF leaders. The discussions will address global economic challenges and emphasize issues like private capital mobilization, job creation, technological innovation, and economic resilience.

This year's meetings, under the theme 'Thailand's New Horizons Empowering People, Building Resilience', mark the 82nd edition of the event and the second time Thailand has hosted since 1991. Angola, a member of the WB and IMF since 1989, continues to strengthen its partnerships through programs aimed at enhancing economic management and growth.
