Luanda: Angola has been participating since Monday in Havana, Cuba, in the First International Colloquium "Fidel: Legacy and Future", which runs until Thursday as part of the commemorations for the centenary of the birth of former Cuban President Fidel Castro. According to a press release from the Embassy of Angola in Cuba sent to ANGOP, the Angolan delegation is headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Américo Kuononoca. According to Angola Press News Agency, The delegation includes the Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, technicians from the National Assembly and the Ministry of Culture, as well as officials from the Diplomatic Mission of Angola in Cuba. The meeting brings together participants from different countries to discuss the political, historical, cultural, and international trajectory of Fidel Castro, highlighting themes such as "Fidel as a Revolutionary and Statesman", and "Fidel, the World, the Humanist and Internationalist Legacy". Themes such as "The Cultural Mark", "The Mil itary Strategist", "Fidel and Imperialism", "Unity as a Strategy", and "Education, Science, and Conscience" are also part of the agenda. The programme includes round tables, workshops, and forums aimed at youth, parliamentarians, and women, in addition to the presentation of books about Fidel Castro published in Cuba and abroad. As a special contribution from the Fidel Castro Centre, the Edition of the "Selected Works of the Commander-in-Chief" will be presented, a four-year editorial project that brings together content considered essential for understanding the thought and work of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution. The initiative is part of the preparatory activities for the centenary commemorations of the birth of Fidel Castro, a central figure in Cuba's contemporary history and in the relations of solidarity and cooperation between Cuba and various countries, including Angola. Fidel Castro led the Cuban Revolution and directed the process of consolidating the socialist system in the country. He died on November 25, 2016, in Havana at the age of 90. The Angolan delegation arrived in Havana on Sunday. Cooperation relations between Angola and Cuba have historical roots and date back to the period of National Independence in 1975, with the two countries maintaining, over the last five decades, a partnership based on solidarity, training of cadres, and technical-scientific exchange. Cuba has become one of Angola's main partners in the training of cadres, with many Angolans benefiting from training in that country in technical, scientific, and specialised areas. Health constitutes one of the most visible areas of bilateral cooperation, with the training of specialists and Cuban professionals providing assistance in various health units across Angola. In education and higher education, the partnership has enabled the training of thousands of Angolan students, technicians, and professionals in various fields of knowledge, including technical and scientific specialities and postgraduate programmes. Coo peration also extends to the fields of Defence and Security, sectors that form part of the historical dimension of relations between the two States and continue to benefit from exchange mechanisms and institutional cooperation. On the economic front, Angola and Cuba have sought to expand cooperation into areas such as agriculture, tourism, public works, and business promotion, aiming to strengthen economic relations and identify new investment opportunities. The partnership also includes technical-scientific and parliamentary exchange, with regular contacts between institutions of the two countries and initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest.
