Angola Prepares for Participation in Upcoming Russia-Africa Summit

Moscow:Angola is gearing up to participate in the Third Russia-Africa Summit, which is set to take place on October 28 and 29 in Moscow. The official delegation from Angola will be led by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Domingos Vieira Lopes, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, has already arrived in Moscow. He is accompanied by a team of officials from his department as part of the preparations for the summit.

As part of the summit preparations, Secretary of State Lopes held a working meeting with Angola's Ambassador to Russia, Augusto da Silva Cunha, at the Angolan diplomatic mission in Russia. During this meeting, Ambassador Cunha provided details about the summit's agenda, highlighting the main events and organisational arrangements concerning Angola's participation.

The summit's plenary session will be co-chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Head of State of Burundi, Évariste Ndayishimiye, who is also the current Chairperson of the African Union. This summit aims to serve as a forum for political dialogue and cooperation between Russia and African countries, focusing on the enhancement of bilateral and multilateral relations in various fields including political, economic, scientific, technological, cultural, and humanitarian areas.

The first Russia-Africa Summit took place in October 2019 in Sochi, Russia, under the theme 'For Peace, Security and Development,' setting priorities for strengthening economic and political relations. The second summit occurred in St Petersburg in July 2023, which culminated with a joint declaration outlining future cooperation priorities.

The summit is planned to be held every three years to maintain dialogue and monitor the execution of commitments. The next edition in 2026 will feature the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, engaging government representatives, international organisations, businesspeople, academics, and experts. This programme includes discussions on a wide range of topics including trade, investment, industry, food and energy security, as well as digital transformation, health, education, and innovation. It is also expected to explore new cooperation forms in infrastructure, agriculture, technology transfer, and human resource development, identifying projects and agreements to deepen relations between Russia and African nations.
