Luanda: Angolan referees Edson Esoko, Laurinda Caluvi, Edilson Gomes, and Ana Dongala have been promoted to the FIFA category this year, marking a significant step forward in their careers. They will now represent Angola in international competitions under the auspices of world football's highest governing body.
According to Angola Press News Agency, with these changes, Angola now boasts seven main FIFA referees, comprising five males and two females. Additionally, the country has eight representatives on the board of assistants, with six men and two women. While these promotions reflect progress, the demotion of referees Paulo S©rgio, Jos© lvaro Tchitimba, TSnia Duarte, and Andalia Jeremias indicates a reshuffling within the ranks.
Edson Esoko, a national referee for 12 years and now a main referee at the age of 33, alongside national assistant Laurinda Caluvi, aged 26, are affiliated with the Hula Football Association. They have been appointed to the list of international referees by the African Football Confederation (CAF) this year. Esoko expressed his pride in receiving the nomination, emphasizing the increased responsibility and commitment required in his role.
Esoko also stated his determination to not just wear the FIFA badge but to represent Angola effectively on the international stage, ensuring that national arbitration gains more respect across borders.
