Luanda: Angola experiences a significant number of attempted cyberattacks each week, with over 4,409 incidents targeting its financial institutions, and nearly half of these attempts proving successful.
According to Angola Press News Agency, data presented by Deloitte Angola during a cybersecurity conference in Luanda revealed that these statistics pertain to the year 2025. Daniel Ferreira, a representative from Deloitte, emphasized the increasing aggressiveness of cyberattacks, stressing the urgent need for enhanced protection methods. He highlighted that organizations, particularly in Angola's financial and public sectors, are under constant pressure due to cyber threats.
Further insights from the Angolan technology consulting firm ANS disclosed that financial losses resulting from these cyberattacks amount to 6 billion kwanzas daily. ANS CEO Alberto Maila attributed the success of these attacks to vulnerabilities in data protection systems within institutions. He pointed out that inadequate protection allows hackers or malicious insiders to easily extract or manipulate sensitive data, thereby impacting business operations.
Maila also shared that ANS's findings are based on a three-year survey involving 23 banking institutions in Angola. He emphasized that to mitigate these attacks, there is a need for stringent regulation and substantial investment in continuous monitoring systems for computer networks.
The cybersecurity conference, organized by Angola Telecom and Deloitte Angola, gathered experts and employees to address concerns about vulnerabilities in software and hardware vendors. Discussions also focused on the utilization of artificial intelligence to both automate attacks and bolster detection and response systems. The conference underscored the risks associated with the growing number of connected devices and the potential hijacking of critical sectors such as healthcare and infrastructure.
