Luanda: Angola will participate in the African Championship in men and women’s categories taking place from October 12 to 19 in Tunis, Tunisia, with the goal of a podium finish, the coach of the National Table Tennis Team, Manuel Pimenta, said on Thursday in Luanda.
According to Angola Press News Agency, speaking to ANGOP ahead of the competition, Pimenta recalled that in the last edition, in 2024, held in Ethiopia, the national team reached the quarterfinals, losing to the host country 1-3.
The coach emphasized that the competition serves as a qualifier for the 2026 World Championship to be held in England. Angola qualified for this edition after being crowned men’s champions and women’s runner-up in the Region V Games, which the country hosted in 2024 in Luanda, with 16 participating countries.
The Angola national team comprises three men players, namely Elizandro André, Délcio Cassule, and Francisco Fernandes, while Isabel Albino, Kailane de Sousa, and Ruth Tavares are in the women’s team. Angola has pa
rticipated in 15 editions of the African Table Tennis Championship, winning bronze in 2004, 2016, and 2018.
