Angola Seeks Tanzanian Expertise to Tackle Maternal Health Challenges

Dar Es Salaam:Angolan President João Lourenço announced on Thursday that Angola is seeking to leverage Tanzania's expertise in healthcare to address maternal and neonatal mortality rates. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen bilateral relations in healthcare, aerospace, and trade.

According to Angola Press News Agency, President Lourenço highlighted Angola's aim to utilize the successful strategies employed by Tanzania in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. Despite the rapid expansion of Angola's hospital infrastructure, there is a significant shortage of specialized medical personnel. To address this, Angola is considering hiring Tanzanian specialists, training Angolan medical professionals at Tanzanian universities, and implementing telemedicine for remote healthcare training.

President Lourenço emphasized that success in maternal and child health relies not only on building hospitals and acquiring equipment but also on improving the qualifications of healthcare professionals and humanizing care. Beyond healthcare, Angola is looking to collaborate with Tanzania in the field of aerospace, aiming to share satellite capabilities to enhance regional cooperation within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

In terms of private investment, President Lourenço reaffirmed Angola's commitment to creating a favorable environment for national and foreign investors by reducing bureaucracy and fighting corruption. He encouraged Tanzanian entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in Angola, ensuring that they need not fear undue payment demands.

The Angolan president also stressed that the success of bilateral cooperation is contingent on maintaining regional peace and security. He expressed concerns over instability in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, insecurity in northern Mozambique, and the unconstitutional situation in Madagascar. President Lourenço underlined the importance of continued efforts by SADC countries to maintain political and social stability and resolve crises threatening regional security.
