Accra:The number of students enrolled in higher education in Angola increased by approximately 10.1% from 2022 to 2026, rising from 320,432 to 352,873, as announced by President Joao Lourenço.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Lourenço shared these figures during his State of the Nation address at the opening of the final legislative session of the National Assembly. He highlighted that the growth in enrollment is a result of the expansion of the country's academic network and the diversity of program offerings.
The higher education network in Angola expanded significantly from 64 institutions in 2016 to 106 by 2026, with 28 of these being new private institutions. This expansion has led to a broader range of academic options, including more than 295 undergraduate degrees, 11 technical-vocational bachelor's programs, 25 master's degree programs, and a specialization program.
The president stressed that these developments are part of the government's efforts to enhance academic training standards, boost scientific and technological research, and ensure that higher education aligns with the national labor market and economic development needs.
