Angola to Highlight Economic Growth at World Bank and IMF Meetings

Bangkok:The annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Bangkok will see Angola focusing on its recent economic growth achievements. The Angolan delegation, led by Luís Epalanga, Secretary of State for Planning, will discuss the country's economic evolution amid a global climate marked by uncertainty and risks.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the World Bank recently increased Angola's economic growth forecast for 2026 from 2.4% to 4.5%. This adjustment comes after Angola's GDP grew by 4.4% in 2024, the highest rate since 2014, due to the dynamism of the non-oil sector, although it slowed to 3.1% in 2025.

Angola's participation in the meetings aims to deepen institutional dialogue with the World Bank, the IMF, and other development partners. The delegation will also engage in debates on global economic outlooks and present priorities for financing and international cooperation.

The event provides an opportunity for Angola to align with other African countries and explore new avenues for cooperation, investment, and resource mobilization. Discussions will cover development financing, economic growth, infrastructure, and human capital.

High-level meetings and technical sessions will address strategic matters for national and African development, focusing on job creation, technological innovation, and economic resilience. This gathering, under the theme 'Thailand's New Horizons Empowering People, Building Resilience,' marks the second time Thailand hosts the event, after its first in 1991.
