Luanda: Angola will make its geological map available on a public digital platform, enabling users to consult the location and status of mining concessions in the country, Secretary of State for Mineral Resources JSnio Victor announced in Malanje on Thursday.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the new platform, known as the Digital Mining Cadastre, is one of the sector's main innovations, the official said in an interview with ANGOP on the sidelines of the 13th Consultative Council Meeting of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas (MIREMPET), being held in Malanje from 13 to 14 August.
JSnio Victor explained that the implementation of the Digital Mining Cadastre will change the way administrative processes are handled in the sector, which has previously relied on paper documents submitted to the ministry or mineral resources agencies. He noted that the digitisation of procedures is intended to reduce bureaucracy, speed up processes and facilitate access to information on the country's mining areas.
The Secretary of State also stressed that the platform would enhance transparency in the sector by enabling interested parties to verify the location and status of concessions through Angola's geological map.
Regarding the consultative council, JSnio Victor said the meeting aims to assess the sector's performance and establish strategic guidelines for the future. Held under the theme 'Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas as a Factor in Growth, Diversification, Sustainable Development and Sovereignty', the consultative council officially opens on Friday, 14 August, bringing together sector officials, companies under MIREMPET's supervision and international partners.
The programme includes a review of the sector's main indicators from 2023 to 2026, a presentation of the Digital Mining Cadastre and discussions on strategies for gold refining and the processing of ornamental stone. The programme for the 13th Consultative Council Meeting also includes thematic debates, technical panels and institutional presentations, as well as discussions on the need for companies to increase their corporate social responsibility initiatives in accordance with the Presidential Decree.
The event will also address key issues including the growth of the extractive industry, economic diversification, environmental sustainability and the strengthening of Angola's energy and mineral sovereignty.
