Lubango: The Vice-President of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), Ana Catarina Alberto, has announced plans to inaugurate Angola's women's football league this December. Speaking in Lubango, she emphasized that preparations are currently underway for this significant development in Angolan sports.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Alberto, who oversees women's football, shared this update at the conclusion of the Southern Zone Women's Football Tournament. This event saw Wiliete de Benguela and Gloriosos da Huila emerge as the region's representatives for the final stage of the National Championship, scheduled to be held between July and August in Luanda.
Alberto highlighted that the zonal championships are crucial for the league's structure, aiding in the identification and qualification of teams that will participate in the national women's competition. Despite challenges faced by clubs, she stressed the importance of continuing the work of associations and teams to further develop women's football in Angola.
Reflecting on the Southern Zone tournament, Alberto noted the impressive public turnout, particularly during the final match, and commended the competitive spirit of the teams involved. However, she acknowledged some incidents related to refereeing decisions and urged players, officials, and coaching staff to foster a more harmonious match environment.
She further encouraged ongoing camaraderie, organization, and dedication among the teams and organizations in the Southern Zone, aiming to elevate Angolan women's football to higher competitive standards.
