Angolan President Assesses Mbanza Congo Airport Project Progress

Mbanza kongo: President Lourenço assessed on Wednesday the progress of the construction works of the new Mbanza Congo airport located in Mbanza Kongo, city, northern Zaire province. During the inspection visit, the Head of State learnt about the level of the execution of the project, which is 32 percent complete, as well as the prospects for completion of the infrastructure. According to Angola Press News Agency, the project completion is scheduled for the second half of 2027, which will allow the province of Zaire to have an airport with better technical conditions, greater operational capacity and aligned with modern civil aviation standards. The project was awarded to the Chinese company Sinohydro, responsible for the execution of the main components of the infrastructure, including the runway, passenger terminal, control tower, and operational support structures. Its works resumption marks a new phase in the execution of a project considered strategic for the economic and tourist development of the nort hern region of the country. The new airport is expected to enhance the mobility of people and goods, support the tourism potential of Mbanza Kongo, a city classified as a World Heritage Site.
