Luanda: Angolan President Joo Louren§o on Tuesday congratulated Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election as President of Zambia on 13 August this year.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Joo Louren§o said in his message that the victory resulted from the choice of the Zambian people, "who renewed their confidence in the candidate who guarantees them a predictable future and the necessary conditions to fulfil their aspirations for progress and development".
He added that the elections reflected the democratic maturity of the Zambian people, in an electoral contest in which the preservation of the national interest, patriotism, and respect for the sovereign decision of citizens were the predominant features. In this regard, Joo Louren§o expressed his best wishes for success in the mission Hichilema will continue to undertake with the same commitment and determination that characterise him.
He also expressed hope that, during the new term, the two leaders would continue working together to deepen bilateral co-operation and implement projects aimed at promoting the development of both countries.
According to the official announcement by the Electoral Commission of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema was elected to a second five-year term after winning the presidential election with 61.4 per cent of the vote.
