Dar es Salaam:Angolan President João Lourenço reaffirmed his country's commitment to leveraging its diplomatic standing to champion international conflict resolution, respect for international law, and global stability during his recent visit to Tanzania.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Lourenço delivered remarks on Thursday in Dar es Salaam, addressing pressing geopolitical crises across Africa and the broader international stage. He highlighted ongoing instability in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sudan, northern Mozambique, and Madagascar, warning that mounting conflicts in Southern Africa threaten the stability of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
President Lourenço pointed to the wider economic ramifications of global friction, specifically citing the war in Ukraine, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and tensions in the Persian Gulf. He noted that these conflicts are directly driving up the costs of oil, fuel, and fertilizers, exacerbating economic hardship and straining living conditions worldwide.
To address systemic global vulnerabilities, the President reiterated Angola's call for comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council. He advocated for permanent representation seats for Africa, Latin America, and Asia—complete with equal rights and the veto power held by current permanent members—arguing that a more balanced council is essential for effective global governance.
During his visit, President Lourenço met with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to discuss bilateral relations and joint strategies for regional security. The visit underscores Angola's continued diplomatic push for multilateral cooperation and economic development.
