Lubango: The remains of Faustino Paulo Muetunda, an Angolan student who tragically died after drowning in a dam in Portugal, were laid to rest on Saturday in the Mutundo municipal cemetery in Lubango, Huila Province. The somber event marked the conclusion of a journey that began when his body arrived in Luanda on Friday, after which his family ensured it was transported to Lubango the same day. According to Angola Press News Agency, a wake was held at the Cultural Center in Lubango prior to the burial, where family members, local academics, and friends gathered to pay their last respects. Messages were shared by those who knew Muetunda, reflecting on his life and untimely passing. Muetunda, aged 32, was originally from Lubango and was a student at the University of Beira Interior in Portugal. His life was cut short when he drowned in an agricultural reservoir on the Corgos River in Canhoso, Covilh, on March 31. A friend recounted that Muetunda had dived into the reservoir with a colleague and disappeared sh ortly thereafter, leading the group to alert local rescue authorities. The search and recovery operation involved multiple resources from the Portuguese Civil Protection, including firefighter divers. After a tense and emotional wait, Muetunda's body was located two hours following the initial alert, bringing closure to the immediate search efforts.
