Luanda: The Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, Lºcio Amaral, announced on Friday in Huambo the imminent resumption of the rehabilitation and expansion works at the Army Military Academy, which have been paralyzed for nine years. The minister was speaking to the press at the end of a visit to the infrastructure, dedicated to the training of senior officers of this branch of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), located in the Santo Ant³nio neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Huambo.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Lºcio Amaral did not disclose the reasons for the work stoppage but confirmed that there is an order to resume and complete the works. The goal is to transfer the Academy from Lobito, in the province of Benguela, to Huambo as soon as possible, with the hope that the institution will once again train officers for the Army. He highlighted the Academy's historical significance, noting that during the time of the People's Armed Forces for the Liberation of Angola (FAPLA), it trained many officers who continue to serve in high positions within the FAA.
Amaral emphasized that the resumption of construction is imminent, stating, "The company's men are here, and they have guaranteed to set up the construction sites next week to begin the works." The rehabilitation and expansion work of the Army Military Academy originally began in 2012, following a previous suspension of activities in 1992 due to the conflict that affected the country.
During his brief visit to the Central Plateau region of Angola, the minister, accompanied by the governor of Huambo province, Pereira Alfredo, also evaluated the conditions of the Huambo Higher Institute in the Academic neighborhood. The focus is on improving the institution and constructing additional infrastructure at the site.
Huambo province is a part of the Central Military Region, which also includes Benguela, Bi©, and Cuanza-Sul, as well as some municipalities in the northern part of Hula. Huambo serves as the home to the region's Headquarters.
