Arab Sports Games-(Women’s Boxing): Tunisian Chedha Jelassi bags silver

Tunisian boxer Chedha Jelassi, the last Tunisian contender in the women’s finals held on Tuesday at the Arab Sports Games in Algiers 2023, fell short of surpassing her compatriots as she clinched the silver medal in the -52kg category.

Jelassi was defeated by Jordanian boxer Hanan Nasser on points.

Earlier, Meriem Homrani Zayani and Wiem Jouini also claimed silver medals in the women’s boxing tournament at the Games.

Zayani was beaten by the gold medalist from the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algerian Hadjila Khélif, through a referee’s stoppage in the second round in the -60kg weight category.

Wiem Jouini (-50kg) was defeated by another Algerian boxer, Roumaïssa Boualem.

Next to hosts Algeria, twelve Arab countries are taking part in the Algiers edition, which marks the first inclusion of the women’s tournament.
