Luanda:The Archbishop of Luanda, Filomeno Vieira Dias, emphasized the critical role of rational and sustainable water management in industrial revitalization and international peace during his address at the 4th edition of the Luanda Biennale. The event, which began on Thursday, focuses on using water governance as a tool for conflict prevention and resolution across Africa.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the biennale, organized by the Angolan Government in collaboration with the African Union (AU) and UNESCO, is themed 'Strengthening Water Governance in Africa as an Instrument for Conflict Prevention, Mediation, and Resolution.' The gathering aims to promote peace and cooperation through sustainable water management practices.
The event brings together government officials, international organizations, and civil society representatives for discussions on various topics, including water diplomacy, regional integration, and conflict resolution. The first day features a high-level intergenerational dialogue and panels focusing on water, peace, and cooperation. The second day will address community participation in water governance, human rights, climate change, and other critical areas.
The Luanda Biennale will conclude with the adoption of the 2026 Declaration and a final communiqué from the African Union, UNESCO, and the Angolan government. Initiated in 2019, the biennale seeks to strengthen the Pan-African movement for peace through dialogue and cultural diversity. The focus on water governance for the 2026 edition underscores the resource's significance in ensuring social and economic stability amid climate challenges.
