BAL 2025: Angolan Referee Cl¡udio Eiuba Debuts at Basketball African Championship

Pretoria: Angolan international referee Cl¡udio Eiuba judged the first match of the Basketball African Championship (BAL) on Sunday night, marking his debut in the competition currently taking place in Pretoria, South Africa.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Eiuba, who hails from the province of Huambo, initially served as the video referee in the game between Al Ahly Tripoli from Libya and Al Ittihad of Alexandria from Egypt on Friday. He then took center stage as the on-court referee during the match where the Egyptian team defeated FUS Rabat of Morocco, 86-83, after a tie at 74 points in regular time, thereby securing a spot in the semi-finals.

The thrilling contest was held at the SunBet Arena, setting the stage for Al Ittihad to advance to the semi-finals where they will face the winner of the match between Petro de Luanda and Monastir from Tunisia. This crucial game is scheduled for Monday evening.

With a loss in group B, the Angolan team faces a must-win situation to continue in the competition and strive to defend the title they claimed last year.
