Bar Association announces intention to suspend membership of UIA over pro-Zionist stance

The Tunisian National Bar Association (ONAT) announced on Thursday its intention to permanently suspend its membership of the International Union of Lawyers (UIA) if it does not renounce its pro-Zionist stance. ONAT also declared its boycott of the Union’s upcoming International Congress, scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy, from October 25 to 29. ONAT’s protest stems from the UIA’s position, which it considers to be “contrary to the principles and values upheld by the Tunisian Bar”, as stated in a letter addressed by the head of the Bar to the President of the Union. The Bar Association also condemns the UIA’s support for the Zionist aggression against Gaza and calls on the Union to reconsider its position and adhere to “its noble principles”. In a statement issued on October 12, the International Union of Lawyers strongly condemned the attacks carried out by “the Palestinian resistance in Israel”.
