Budget of Provisional Supreme Judicial Council cut by 50%

The Parliament’s General Legislation Committee, during a hearing on Monday with the first vice-president of the provisional Supreme Judicial Council, Abdesselem Grissaa, took note of the council’s mission within the framework of the state budget for the year 2024, in light of the drastic 50% reduction in its budget. In a statement released by the parliament on Monday, Grissaa explained this substantial cut as a measure of budgetary austerity, taking into account the increased vulnerability of public finances and the widening of budget deficits in recent years. Moreover, “this reduction is in line with both the letter and the spirit of the general guidelines set out in the circular on the rules for the drafting of the State budget”, he said. The budget of the provisional Supreme Council of the Judiciary for 2024 will be halved to 2,207,000 TND, compared to TND 4,051,000 in 2023. This projected budget will be used for salaries, administrative expenses and intervention costs.
