Tunis: Italian enterprises operating in the sector of building and public works undertook to make some 2,000 job opportunities available for Tunisian youth over three years under a framework cooperation agreement.
The agreement was signed in Tunis by the National Agency for Employment and Self-Employment (ANETI), the Tunisian Agency for Vocational Training (ATFP), the Associazione Nazionale Costruttori Edili (ANCE) -the Italian Association of private construction contractors- and Italian NGO Associazione Centro.
Chief of Staff of the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Abdelkader Jemali told reporters during a signing ceremony 400 young Tunisians specialised in building and public works will be hired this year, a further 800 next year and as many in 2026.
A call for tenders will be launched over the next weeks to recruit young people wishing to take jobs in Italian enterprises, he added. Candidates need to be aged 18 to 34 and enrolled in employment offices.
A three-month complementary session
of training in Italian language and civilisation, occupational safety and labour legislation will be held. Potential trainees will get monthly grants of TND 340 duing the training period.
Italian enterprises will cover the costs of medical tests, travel and accommodation for recipients, the official said.
The hiring of 2,000 Tunisian youth in a legal and thoughful way is an ideal opportunity that secures employment and a stable professional future, said ANCE president.
Italian enterprises will benefit from the Tunisian expertise to promote their activities.
The signing ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training. It was notably attended by Italian Ambassador to Tunisia Alessandro Prunas, Deputy Head of the European Delegation in Tunisia Gianfranco Bochicchio and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission to Tunisia Azzouz Samri.
