Cabinda: Nine new positive cases of monkeypox have been diagnosed in the northern province of Cabinda, Angola, over the last three days, as confirmed by Filipe Camanda, head of the provincial Department of Public Health and Endemic Disease Control.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Filipe Camanda stated that the province is currently monitoring a total of 35 active monkeypox cases. In addition to the confirmed cases, there are 26 new suspected cases identified. Among these, 23 patients are receiving treatment at the Tchizo Smallpox Treatment Center, while three are in home isolation under medical supervision.
Filipe Camanda further explained that the suspected cases involve individuals with skin lesions, and they are in the process of sample collection for testing at the National Institute of Health Research. He urged the public to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, body aches, or skin lesions to ensure prompt diagnosis and treatment.
Since the outbreak began in May, the province has reported 220 suspected monkeypox cases, with 92 confirmed positive cases, comprising 37 males and 55 females. Camanda noted that 105 individuals have been cleared from epidemiological monitoring after completing their treatment and are no longer considered at risk of transmitting the disease.
