Cabinet reviews bill amending provisions of labour code

Tunis: A Cabinet Meeting held Tuesday at the Government Palace in Kasbah focused on reviewing a bill amending and supplementing a set of provisions of the labour code, reads a statement of the Prime Ministry.

Premier Ahmed Hachani, chairing the meeting, underscored that the Tunisian Constitution guarantees, under Article 46, that “every citizen has the right to work. The State shall take necessary measures to ensure this based on competence and equity, and every citizen has the right to work under decent conditions and for a fair wage.”

He emphasised that the President’s initiative aligns within this framework.

Minister of Social Affairs Kamel Madouri presented an overview of the bill amending and supplementing certain provisions of the labour code. He highlighted the importance of the approach taken, which balances the need to protect workers’ fundamental rights with fostering investment incentives and revitalising the labour market.

The Minister also stressed the importance of harmonising the labour cod
e provisions with employment policies and various support mechanisms and programmes.

The proposed bill on certain provisions of the labour code aims to ensure fair competition among business enterprises and their obligations towards employees, offering an opportunity and guarantee in this regard.
