ANGOLAN ARTISTS EXHIBIT IN PORTUGAL

Luanda – The Angolan plastic artists Lino Damião and Nelo Teixeira inaugurated Wednesday an exhibition called “Exploring /Kubanga Kukatula”,in Porto city, Portugal.

The exhibition, to be open until September 03, brings together works of artistic creation and research, focused on artistic residencies and represents the artists’ identity and memory, as well as their integration in the Portuguese territory.

Speaking to ANGOP, Lino Damião stressed that the sample represents a process of exploration of the file “Observatório da Chicala” (Luanda) and several technical visits in residences in Lisbon and Porto.

Lino Damião was born in Luanda in 1977. At the age of 12, in 1989, he won the first Painting Prize of the National Union of Visual Artists.

In 2000, he graduated in Plastic Arts at the National Institute of Artistic Training in Luanda. He attended several courses in Drawing, Painting and Engraving.

MBANZA KONGO MANAGEMENT PLAN GETS UPDATE

Mbanza Kongo – The Ministry of Culture said the management plan for the Historic Center of Mbanza Kongo, in northern Zaire province, is being updated.

The process is being carried out by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The current management plan, in force since 2016, expired in 2020, so there is an urgent need to develop a new one, for the period 2022-2026, said the Secretary of State for Culture, Maria da Piedade de Jesus.

On her three-day working visit to the World Heritage city, Maria da Piedade told the press on Tuesday that the current management plan for the capital of the former Kingdom of Kongo has been carried out by a committee, created under Presidential Decree 178/2015, of 18 September.

The plan is meant to develop actions aimed to save and preserve the local historical and cultural heritage, as well as disseminating its exceptional value.

The official spoke of the Kongo International Culture Festival (FestiKongo) scheduled for July this year, stating that the event will be held in a particular context due to Covid-19.

The Secretary of State also spoke of the holding of an international workshop by video-conference that will gather the countries whose territories belonged to the former Kingdom of Kongo, with stress to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Republic of Congo and Gabon.

The official also announced plans to upgrade the Museum of the Kings of Kongo,

in an action to be carried out in partnership with the French Embassy in Angola.

The Historic Center of Mbanza Kongo was enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage list on July 8, 2017.

ANGOLA GUEST OF HONOUR AT 8TH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Lubango – Angola will attend the eighth edition of the International Film Festival “Arquiteturas Film Festival”, set for 1-6 June, in Lisbon, Portugal.

The country, which will participate in the event as guest of honour, is expected to present 11 cinematographic contents.

The activity will take place at São Jorge cinema and is an initiative that looks at the landscapes, projects, ideas and experiences of the world.

Emphasise will be place on Angolan content such as “Ar Condicionado”, “O Herói”, “Para Lá dos Meus Passos ”and“ Mulheres ”, announced the organisation of the event.

Speaking to Angop from Lisbon on Thursday, one of the Angolan representatives to the event, the actor Sílvio Nascimento, said that all the films to be shown were produced in Angola and by Angolans.

He considered an “honor for the country and for that peculiar moment of Angolan film”.

The six-day event will enable the Angolans to present 11 cinematographic works at the festival, ranging from documentaries, fiction films, animation and experimental works produced from 1975 to 2020
