Cazenga Wins First Place in Class B of Luanda Carnival

Luanda: The Unio Geraço do Cazenga carnival group clinched the top spot in the Adult Class B category of the 2026 Luanda Carnival, earning 794 points. The vibrant parade unfolded on Sunday at Nova Marginal. According to Angola Press News Agency, participating for the first time, the group spotlighted the municipality's cultural symbols and monuments through the Semba dance. Formed in August 2025, the group showcased the song 'Cazenga Nossa História' (Cazenga Our History), composed by Wilson Manuel and performed by Mestre Lolito. The performance underscored the significance of Carnival in preserving cultural memory, celebrating traditions, and reinforcing a commitment to artistic development. The results were unveiled on Wednesday during a ceremony at the Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples (LAASP). Following closely, the Unio Twafundumuka group from Rangel secured second place with 753 points, while Unio Twabixila from Mulenvos claimed third place with 752 points. Fourth place was a warded to Unio 10 de Dezembro from Maianga with 749 points, and Unio Mundo Real from Cacuaco rounded off the top five with 710 points. These top groups will advance to Class A in the 2027 carnival. Judges assessed various elements of the carnival groups' performances, including choreography, songs, allegories, cuts, flags, costumes, support phalanxes, and plots, where the 'commander' played a vital role. Cláudio Silva, coordinator of the Unio Geraço do Cazenga carnival group, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, noting the group's thorough preparation and dedication. 'The result is very satisfactory and reflects the group's talent. Next year, we will surprise the nation with more diversity, joy, and fun,' Silva stated.
