Chinguar Launches Corn Harvest Program to Aid Farmers

Chinguar: The administration of the municipality of Chinguar, in the province of Bi©, launched the 'Corn Harvest in the Community Field' program to reduce the costs of farmers in marketing their produce, ANGOP has learnt.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Head of the Institute for Agricultural Development (IDA) in Chinguar, Rodrigues Cabinda, stated that the initiative represents an important step in the provincial strategy to combat poverty. This strategy involves promoting community farming as a tool for social inclusion, rural employment, and food autonomy.

Without specifying the percentage, Cabinda noted that the program is part of government initiatives aimed at strengthening the promotion of family and sustainable agriculture. He emphasized the technical assistance provided to communities to increase agricultural production in this part of the province.

For the 2024/2025 agricultural year, 13,009 families, out of the 33,450 controlled, benefited from agricultural inputs from the municipal administration.

The inputs included 231 tonnes of fertiliser, 15 tonnes of maize seed, 10 tonnes of soybean seed, 5 tonnes of bean seed, carrot, onion, tomato, pepper and other seeds, as well as production tools.
