Cholera Outbreak in Angola: 110 New Cases Registered Across Multiple Provinces

Luanda: A total of 110 new cases of cholera were registered in the last 24 hours across the provinces of Bengo, Luanda, Icolo and Bengo, Cuanza-Sul, and Huambo. The cases were confirmed by the Data Processing Center of the Epidemiological Surveillance System of the National Directorate of Public Health. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Information Bulletin of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), which provides daily updates, reported that six deaths were also recorded during this period. The fatalities occurred in Bengo, where three deaths were reported, Luanda with two deaths, and Icolo and Bengo with a single reported death. The distribution of the newly confirmed cases is as follows: Bengo recorded 47 cases, Luanda 45, Icolo and Bengo 15, Cuanza-Sul 2, and Huambo 1. During this same period, 94 individuals were discharged from medical facilities, but 171 patients remain hospitalized. Since the onset of the outbreak in the first week of January 2025, a cumulative total of 4,107 cases have been report ed. The breakdown of these cases includes 1,966 in Luanda, 1,586 in Bengo, 493 in Icolo and Bengo, 27 in Cuanza-Sul, 14 in Malanje, 7 in Huambo, 6 in Huila, 5 in Zaire, 2 in Cuanza-Norte, and 1 in Cunene. The death toll has reached 147, with the majority of fatalities occurring in Bengo (66) and Luanda (59). The outbreak has affected individuals ranging from two to 100 years of age.
