Construction Material Prices Experience Marginal Slowdown in July

Luanda: The Construction Materials Price Index (CMPI) recorded a monthly variation of 0.32 per cent in July 2026, representing a slowdown of 0.26 percentage points compared with June, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). This indicates a slight easing in the rising costs of construction materials, a trend that has been closely monitored by industry stakeholders. According to Angola Press News Agency, the year-on-year inflation rate stood at 6.44 per cent, marking a deceleration of 8.59 percentage points. The cumulative variation between December 2025 and July 2026 reached 2.52 per cent. The data highlights the fluctuating nature of construction material prices and provides insight into the economic conditions impacting the sector. The construction materials that recorded the largest price increases in July included crushed stone and marble, which saw a rise of 3.75 per cent. Other notable increases were observed in beams, joists, and battens (0.93 per cent), ready-mix concrete (0.79 per cen t), and timber and plywood (0.72 per cent). Steel, bricks, sand, synthetic products, glass and glass products, aluminium, and blocks also saw price hikes ranging from 0.37 to 0.63 per cent. The material groups contributing most to the variation in the CMPI during July were led by steel, which accounted for 0.18 percentage points. Sand followed with a contribution of 0.06 percentage points, while aluminium, crushed stone, marble, and blocks each contributed 0.03 percentage points. Bricks added 0.02 percentage points, and ready-mix concrete, plastic pipes and fittings, synthetic products, timber, and plywood each contributed 0.01 percentage points. Conversely, cement and binding materials experienced a negative price variation of 0.21 per cent, providing some relief amidst the general upward trend in construction material costs.
