Luanda: Forty artisans from the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Luanda, Namibe, Cuanza-Sul, and Huíla are participating in a craft fair held as part of the 124th edition of the Our Lady of the Mount Festival, which opened on Saturday in Lubango, capital of Angola's southern province of Huila. Compared to the previous edition, the event has seen an increase of 12 exhibitors, reflecting the growing interest among artisans in participating in one of the province's major religious, cultural, and commercial events. According to Angola Press News Agency, the exhibition brings together a wide variety of handcrafted products, including beadwork, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, belts, pottery, baskets, *samakaka* fabrics, and statues depicting the Mumuila woman, Christ the King, and King Ekuikui II-all handmade. Prices for the items range from 500 to 45,000 kwanzas, allowing visitors to purchase souvenirs as well as pieces of significant cultural and artistic value. Artisan Marcos Mateus, from Luanda, who has over 16 years of experience in the craft, stated that the "Senhora do Monte" Festival represents an opportunity to boost sales and expand his business. According to the exhibitor, the large influx of visitors during the festivities drives demand for handcrafted products, contributing to the appreciation of the work done by national creators. Meanwhile, artisan Júlia dos Santos, from Huíla province, noted that she has been working in the field for over six years and considers the fair a prime opportunity to sell her pieces. She mentioned that, despite difficulties in sourcing raw materials, the event allows her to reach a larger number of customers-particularly foreign tourists interested in Angolan art and culture. Paulo Gaspar, president of the Our Lady of the Mount Festival Committee, stated that the presence of artisans creates a prime opportunity to showcase the potential of national handicrafts. He emphasized that the participation of exhibitors from various provinces reinforces the cultural and economic signi ficance of the festivities, fostering artistic exchange and encouraging the preservation of Angolan traditions. Gaspar further highlighted that the craft fair has established itself as a major attraction of the Our Lady of the Mount Festival, drawing thousands of visitors and boosting the local economy. He noted that the event runs until the 31st of this month, a period during which the public can view and purchase a variety of handcrafted products that reflect Angolan cultural identity.
