Tunis: The DiAlz project, which runs from 2024 to 2026, is an innovative study aimed at identifying biomarkers associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease in people with type 2 diabetes, Rim Kefi, senior lecturer and head of the research team at the ‘Biomedical Genomics and Oncogenetics’ research laboratory and head of the genetic typing service at the Pasteur Institute of Tunisia, in a statement told TAP.
This project aims to gain a better understanding of the physiological changes associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease in diabetic patients, and the results of this research will help to develop a national strategy for the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease.
She added that the results of this project will help to reduce the health, psychological and economic impact of Alzheimer’s disease on patients and their families.
So far 30 people have been genotyped in collaboration with the research team at the Tunis Pasteur Institute to identify early biomarkers associated with the de
velopment of Alzheimer’s disease in patients with type 2 diabetes, she added.
