DRC Nationals Arrested for Illegal Diamond Possession in Angola

Luanda: Two citizens from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), aged 50 and 48, have been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Cassanje Calucala, Lunda-Norte province, Angola. The individuals were found in possession of 216 diamond stones of various carats and are suspected of illegal trafficking activities.

According to Angola Press News Agency, SIC spokesperson Graciano Lumanhe revealed that the suspects, who were identified as illegal immigrants, were detained at a police checkpoint. They were attempting to travel to the municipality of X¡-muteba and eventually to Luanda or Dundo.

The arrests and seizure of the diamonds occurred last Sunday during a micro-operation. This operation was part of efforts to combat illegal immigration, diamond mining, and illicit trafficking, including fuel smuggling, organ trafficking, and human trafficking.
