LUANDA: The Luanda Railway (CFL) has commenced the operation of an express passenger train service linking Bungo Station in the city center to the António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) located in the Icolo e Bengo municipality. This new service aims to facilitate convenient transportation for passengers traveling to the newly inaugurated airport.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the first train departed at 4 am, with a subsequent departure two hours later. These initial trains transported key personnel, including heads of companies involved in the airport’s operations and members of the CFL. CFL spokesman Augusto Osório detailed that three routes have been established, including an inter-station service with stops at Musseques, Viana, and Baia stations, as well as two fast services featuring a single stop at Viana Station.
Osório stated that the launch is just the beginning, with plans to enhance the service as passenger numbers increase, particularly from Sunday onward. Ticket prices a
re set at 1,350 kwanzas for the inter-station train and 5,000 kwanzas for the express service. He highlighted the service’s goal of supporting airport-related workers in their commute between the city and the airport.
The train service’s commencement aligns with the start of domestic passenger flights at the new airport, scheduled for the Luanda/Cabinda route on Sunday. Each train has a capacity of 700 passengers, with 12 scheduled trips daily, six outbound and six return, accommodating up to 8,400 passengers per day.
