Farmers Receive Goats

Three farmers in Bungoma County have received 33 goats from the Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KelCOP).

Under the project each of the farmers received one male and ten female goats that will be used for breeding and after multiplication the breeds will be distributed to other farmers in the area.

The Bungoma County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Agriculture Mr. Herbert Kibunguchi asked farmers to give maximum care to the goats in order to achieve the intended purpose of the project which is aimed at improving on the livelihoods of the community.

The CEC who was speaking at Mabanga Agricultural Training College where the presentation was done today said that the project had come at an appropriate time and asked the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity well.

The project Coordinator Rose Khisa said that the goats, the Gala type were chosen because they are suitable for the weather in the area and that they grow at a faster rate.

She asked farmers to take care of the animals as per the
technical advice given by the livestock staff so that they can multiply for distribution to other farmers.

This she said will meet the high demand of goat meat and milk in the area.
