Luanda: The 22nd round of the first division National Football Championship (Girabola2024/25) will only be played at the end of the current month due to the double round dispute of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which is set to be jointly organized by the USA, Mexico, and Canada. The competition was interrupted last week following a decision by the Angolan Football Federation (FAF).
According to Angola Press News Agency, the National team recently drew 1-1 with Libya in Benghazi in a match counting for the fifth round of Group D’s qualifiers for the World Championship. The Angolan squad initially trailed 0-1 but managed to level the score through a free kick executed by Fredy. This result leaves Angola in the 4th position with 8 points.
Meanwhile, Angola is set to face Cabo Verde, the group leaders with 10 points, next Tuesday (25th). Cameroon holds the second place with 9 points, followed by Libya, also with 8 points. With the change in the schedule, Girabola’s 22nd round is now arranged to be play
ed on 29th and 30th March.
In the current standings of the championship, Petro de Luanda leads with 50 points, followed by Wiliete de Benguela with 48 points, and 1º de Agosto with 39 points. Sagrada Esperança da Lunda Norte holds the fourth position with 34 points, and CD So Salvador is fifth with 33 points.
